Overview

Flying Forward Learning (FFL) is redefining how pilots are trained. Its platform keeps A320 pilots current through daily microlearning, so staying sharp doesn't cost them their days off. It delivers a structured, adaptive learning experience that meets the demands of today's aviation industry.

Challenge

Flying Forward Learning was founded by a pilot with real cockpit experience, but that experience wasn't showing up in the brand. Customers and partners couldn't tell at a glance that it was credible, and in aviation, that's a real problem. Standards are high, and anything that looks dated or amateur signals risk before the conversation even starts. The brand needed to close that gap: to look as trustworthy as it actually was.

Before

After

The differentiation

Staying current on the A320 costs pilots their days off. Building a daily practice on the line takes planning and structure they don’t have time to set up on their own.

The differentiation

The only A320 study tool that fits the line, plans itself, and adapts to each pilot, so days off carry less of the load.

Use case

Staying current on the A320 without giving up days off

Alternative

FCOM/QRH review, peer discussion, pre-check cramming

Category

Pilot self-study app

Persona

ICP

What we did

Defined the anchors: persona, category, use case, alternative and ICP.

Built the value proposition: two life stages, new-to-type and experienced line pilots.

Mapped the differentiation: three pillars, each tied to a real problem.

Set the voice rules: how to talk to pilots with respect.

Locked the terminology: so the product’s training methodology reads as credible.

01 Personal time

Study built into the daily flow, not stacked onto days off

The gap: days off pay for currency.

Benefit

Less prep falls onto days off

02 Planning load

Planning runs in the background. Pilots show up and study.

The gap: each pilot plans their own study.

Benefit

Open the app and study. No decisions, no friction.

03 Per-pilot relevance

Tailored to each pilot’s weak areas, not generic review

The gap: study options are generic to the event, not the pilot.

Benefit

Study time goes where it moves the needle

Positioning Outcomes

The work gave the product one clear job, told across two life stages, and a positioning claim no competitor can make: the only EBT/CBTA-aligned A320 self-study tool. The messaging respects pilots instead of talking down to them, and the framework now carries through the website, sales conversations and app store copy.

Solution

We rebuilt FFL's brand strategy, positioning, and identity from the ground up, then sharpened the story down to the pilot's actual daily reality. That positioning became the foundation for a brand and visual identity built to signal authority and innovation on sight, closing the gap between the founder's real cockpit credibility and how the brand actually looked. From there, we built out the GTM strategy to get FFL in front of pilots directly. With LinkedIn and other standard channels restricted during regulatory approval, we ran a targeted outbound campaign using Apollo and Instantly, generating 100 qualified waiting list sign-ups in a month with no ad budget.

Brand foundations

Aviation runs on trust. Pilots train with tools made by giants like Boeing and Airbus, and anything that feels amateur gets ignored. Flying Forward Learning needed a brand that could sit in that company while speaking to pilots as equals. We built an identity that’s as precise as the industry it serves, and more human than anything else in it.

Highlights

Insight-led strategy. Research with pilots at every career stage showed where the brand could win: credibility, simplicity and respect for a pilot’s time.

A defined brand character. Grounded and peer-to-peer, backed by real expertise. Built by pilots, for pilots.

Functional minimalism. “The essentials. Nothing more.” runs through every touchpoint.

Engineered and human. Aerodynamic geometry paired with a warm, confident wordmark.

Symbol Construction

The mark is built from one angle. Every stroke runs at the same 45-degree line, like an aircraft climbing at takeoff. Two forms rise side by side as twin tail fins, and they share consistent corner radii and spacing. Nothing is drawn by eye. Every edge comes from the grid, so the symbol stays precise at any size, from an app icon to a hangar wall.

Typography

Type follows the same rule as the mark: the essentials, nothing more. A confident headline style carries the voice, while a clean text face keeps dense training content easy to read on a phone between sectors.

The Graphic Language

Every graphic here carries a meaning. The framing lines trace flight paths and runways, a nod to the pilot’s learning journey. The small square marks a waypoint: the next step on that route. The rising bars climb at the same angle as the mark, so the takeoff becomes a pattern of lift and momentum. The geometric tiles break the symbol into 45-degree fins and rebuild them as a modular system. Orange is used sparingly, like a signal light on the flight deck, so it always pulls the eye to what matters. One line ties it all together: Built by Pilots for Pilots.

Built to scale

The brand architecture already stretches to a news sub-brand, Flying Forward News, with its own masthead built from the same 45-degree system, plus social and digital templates ready for launch.

Impact TL;DR

  • Sharpened the product positioning around a real, specific pain: pilots losing days off to pre-check cramming

  • Brand now works as a sales tool before anyone picks up the phone

  • With LinkedIn and other channels restricted during regulatory approval, ran a targeted outbound campaign using Apollo and Instantly, generating 100 qualified waiting list sign-ups in a month with no ad budget

  • Rebuilt brand strategy, positioning, and identity from the ground up, creating a visual language and voice that instantly communicates authority and innovation

  • Now scaling outbound and launching performance campaigns as their channels open up
